Sissa was first published in 1847 by W.J.L.Verbeek, who was subsequently its editor-in-chief for 28 years. In 1873 Sissa became the official magazine of the Dutch Chess Federation. In 1874 Verbeek resigned from his duties as chief editor and Sissa was replaced by De Schaakwereld.
